Job Description
SUMMARY: The Property Accountant is required to support the Assistant Controller and Senior Management with ad hoc projects and assist in some departmental processes such as the budget, audit/tax work paper preparation processes, and tenant communication. They will also be responsible for the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of the company’s retail assets. They will assist in accounting initiatives including, but not limited to; general ledger review, budgeting, tenant billings/collections and year-end financial statements for new and existing shopping centers in the Chase Properties portfolio. They will also support the Controller in certain Accounting Administration responsibilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- General ledger responsibilities for assigned portfolio of properties including but not limited to: Annual budgets, work paper preparation/year-end close work, monthly journal entries
- Facilitate and preparation of all property-level invoices, account analysis, bank statements, tenant chargebacks and billings
- Fixed Assets – Assist supervisor in recording of depreciation along with prepared reports for a portfolio of the company’s assets.
- Recovery billing responsibilities for assigned portfolio of properties including but not limited to: Year-end reconciliations, escrow adjustments, year-end accruals, tenant disputes, non-escrowing tenant tax billings, utility billings
- Monthly tenant cash application balancing and bank reconciliations for assigned portfolio of properties
- Invoice review and payment for major expenses (taxes, mortgages, construction payments, legal reimbursements, etc.) for assigned portfolio of properties
- Coordinate/Facilitate the collection of outstanding A/R amounts from tenants for assigned portfolio of properties related to year-end recovery reconciliations.
- Take on additional ad hoc projects as directed by Assistant Controller and Senior Management
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This job has no direct reports: They are expected to assist the Assistant Controller and senior leadership within the department.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university with a preferred concentration in Accounting, Finance, Construction or Real Estate
- Master's Degree (MBA) or equivalent is not required but a plus.
- 2+ years of work experience, preferably in commercial real estate or public accounting, construction, venture capital with a focus in accounting or finance
- Certificates, licenses and registrations preferred, but not required: CPA
- Computer skills required: Strong computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Other skills desired: Previous budget/accounting software (MRI) experience
