Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. This role is ideal for an educator who believes in providing high-quality instruction and support to all students, regardless of background or ability. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an inclusive, engaging, and innovative learning environment while ensuring that each student's unique educational needs are met.

Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.

Certification: Special Education K-12 Pennsylvania (PA) certification is required.

Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish and English is preferred.

Experience: Demonstrated experience using data-driven instruction to achieve significant student gains.

Preferred Background: Experience working in an urban educational setting with high percentages of English Language Development (ELD) and Special Education (SPED) students.

Mindset: A deep passion for education and a firm belief that zip code does not dictate student success.

Transportation: Ability to reliably commute to the building for required onsite days.

Clearances: Must possess current FBI fingerprints, PA Criminal, and Child Abuse background checks.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide direct and indirect instruction to students in individual, small-group, or whole-group settings using the approved curriculum map in a virtual learning environment.

Develop and implement accommodations and modifications to the curriculum, ensuring accessibility for all students.

Maintain and manage a caseload of identified students, providing targeted interventions and progress monitoring.

Assist general education teachers in designing instructional strategies that meet diverse learning needs.

Assess student progress regularly and use data to inform instructional decisions.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including performance, behavior, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) documentation.

Develop digital curriculum for foundational-level courses in math and English language arts for middle and high school students.

Facilitate and support the IEP process, including writing, revising, and ensuring compliance with all necessary documentation.

Collaborate with grade-level teams, sharing best practices and strategies to support student achievement.

Foster strong relationships with students and their families through regular communication, phone calls, and conferences.

Engage in professional development opportunities and staff meetings to stay informed about best practices in special education.

Occasionally required to walk, bend, squat, reach, and climb stairs.

Ability to stand for extended periods when necessary.

Ability to engage in visual tasks such as reading, writing, and using a computer.

Ability to lift and move up to 30 lbs. when needed.

Willingness to attend onsite sessions for a minimum of 30 days per school year.
