Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Principal Property Appraiser (PPA), the Senior Petroleum and Mining Appraisal Engineer in the Assessment Practices Survey Division (APSD) performs valuation, and economic research work required for the appraisal of all resource properties including petroleum, mining, geothermal, mineral refining and manufacturing plants, and water rights. Performance of these duties supports APSD by completing the assigned appraisal and assessment practices survey duties required to evaluate the local property tax systems level of conformity with state laws, rules, regulations, and accepted standard appraisal valuation practices and techniques.

  • Position requires employee to have and maintain a valid: California Driver’s License.

  • Maintain a Board of Equalization (BOE) appraiser certificate including continuing education.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or equivalent programs.

  • Knowledge of law, rules, appraisal techniques relating to petroleum, geothermal, water rights and mining properties.

  • In-depth technical and specialized knowledge of the function and policy implications of the BOE property tax programs.
