Job Title: Member Engagement Specialist

Industry: Nonprofit / Professional Association

Location: Alexandria, VA (Hybrid)

Assignment Type: Contract through September 30, 2025 (potential to extend)

Pay: $31 – $36 per/hour depending on experience

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm (37.5 hours/week)

This organization serves healthcare professionals with a commitment to advancing patient care and supporting its members through education, collaboration, and innovation.

Job Description:

The Member Engagement Specialist will play a key role in driving community participation and volunteer engagement within an online member platform. This position supports initiatives designed to strengthen professional networks, improve member value, and foster a welcoming digital space for collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for the organization’s online member community platform, ensuring an active, informative, and supportive environment.
  • Design and implement community engagement strategies to increase user activity, drive discussions, and elevate content sharing.
  • Partner with internal staff and volunteer leaders to create meaningful online interactions and support peer-led community initiatives.
  • Recruit and train volunteer ambassadors to promote engagement and uphold community standards.
  • Monitor and report on platform activity, pulling key metrics and providing regular insights to internal teams.
  • Provide support for member-facing communications, collaborating closely with marketing and membership departments.
  • Assist with administrative tasks tied to member services and volunteer coordination.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Management, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 5–8 years of relevant experience in membership services or online community management, ideally within a nonprofit or association setting.
  • Strong familiarity with online community platforms (Higher Logic or similar), and experience handling moderation, escalations, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Salesforce CRM is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Details:

  • This is a hybrid position. The selected candidate must be available to report onsite at the organization’s headquarters in Alexandria, VA for onboarding and occasional meetings.
    • Week 1: 3–4 days onsite
    • Week 2: 2–3 days onsite
    • Week 3 and beyond: Primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings
  • Criminal background check required upon offer.
  • Not eligible for overtime without prior supervisor approval.
