Summary

In the Shulman Lab summer internship, we are interested in understanding the mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's Disease. Alzheimer's disease poses significant challenges globally, and understanding its molecular basis is crucial for developing effective treatments. This summer internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in functional genomics and cross-species genetics, equipping interns with valuable skills to contribute meaningfully to Alzheimer's research.

Job Purpose

Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.

Job Duties

• Conducts experiments to analyze mutant phenotypes in Alzheimer's disease models.
• Collaborates with mentors to design and implements functional genomics experiments aimed at elucidating disease mechanisms.
• Works with fruit flies & human neurons to investigate conserved genetic pathways implicated in Alzheimer's disease.
• Conducts behavioral assay, histological, and biochemical analyses to assess phenotypic changes associated with genetic mutations.
• Participates in group meetings and seminars to critically evaluate research data and their implications for neurodegeneration.
• Prepares research reports, posters, and oral presentations to summarize their findings and communicate them to peers and mentors.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in high school or be a high school graduate (or equivalent secondary education) or enrolled in an institution of higher education.
