Agency Accounting Manager Location: Hybrid – Rhode Island Area Type: Full-Time Experience Level: Mid to Senior About the Role We’re looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Agency Accounting Lead to oversee the financial health and day-to-day accounting operations of our growing marketing agency. This role goes beyond traditional bookkeeping—you’ll be responsible for maintaining accurate financials, managing job costing, processing payroll, and creating custom journal entries to ensure our financial systems support both operational efficiency and strategic growth. You'll work closely with leadership to provide financial insights, support decision-making, and help drive profitability as we scale. You’ll also contribute to light office operations, including supporting hiring and onboarding processes. You won’t be doing it alone—this role comes with real support:

  • A dedicated full-time assistant to help with admin and task follow-ups
  • A part-time accounting support person who’s been with the agency for over 8 years

  • Oversee all daily accounting functions, including accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, and reconciliations
  • Maintain and manage the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and up to date
  • Create and manage custom journal entries to support project-level and business-wide accuracy
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
  • Lead job costing processes to ensure proper expense allocation and project profitability tracking
  • Collaborate with leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
  • Process payroll for employees and contractors, including tracking PTO and handling compliance
  • Work within Workamajig (or a similar platform) to maintain accurate project financials and data
Operational & Administrative Support
  • Support the hiring and onboarding process, including scheduling, documentation, and record setup
  • Maintain and organize employee records and vendor relationships
  • Coordinate internal meetings, schedules, and light office logistics
  • Support leadership with administrative and process improvement tasks as needed
  • Help optimize internal workflows related to finance, HR, and project coordination
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial operations—preferably within a marketing, creative, or service-based agency
  • Experience with job costing, payroll processing, and creating custom journal entries
  • Familiarity with Workamajig (or similar project-based accounting software) is highly preferred
  • Confident preparing and interpreting financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, budgets)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail—you take pride in clean, accurate records
  • Ability to balance day-to-day financial work with supporting operational needs
  • Comfortable collaborating with a small, close-knit team and communicating with leadership
  • Discreet and trustworthy when handling sensitive financial and employee information
  • A proactive mindset—you look for ways to improve systems and help the business grow
