Classification Title:Academic Advisor II/III

Job Description:

The position is located in EduGator Central, the College of Education’s Office of Academic and Student Services, which serves undergraduate and graduate students. Academic Advisor 2 is lead academic advisor for campus-based Elementary Bachelor’s degree program; coordinates native and transfer admission to upper-division program on behalf of the faculty admissions committee. Monitors academic progress and compliance with internal and external policies and addresses probation and suspension issues in consultation with program coordinators. Provides general advising for Professional Training Option minors and Educator Preparation Institute graduate certificate and degree programs. Liaison to teacher preparation programs in CALS and COTA. Recruits potential applicants at internal and external events. Coordinates transfer admission for all undergraduate majors. Coordinates degree certification for campus-based Elementary and Early Childhood majors and all minors. Supports Assistant Director with student athlete transfer evaluation requests and progress reports for NCAA compliance. Supports annual scholarship application process and follows up post-award as appropriate. Provides admission statistics and other reports at regular intervals and upon request.

Academic and Program Advising for Teacher Preparation Programs

  • Responsible for advisement, student engagement and progression, and academic/career support of undergraduate students. Using developmental advising practices, engage new and continuing students in advisement conversations, identification of goals, course and academic planning, timely degree completion, and career planning. Monitor and suggest other UF advising processes and best-practices to enhance student success. Assist in the training of new academic advisors and support staff. Collaborate with other campus units to support student health and wellbeing, making referrals when appropriate. Handle student inquiries and correspondence through email, phone, and video conferencing.  

Recruitment, Admissions, and Retention

  • Working in partnership with COE Admissions process transfer admission applications, assist with orientation, generate content, and provide presentations to support recruitment and admission for undergraduate and other teacher preparation programs. Participate in University events as requested by COE Associate Dean.
  • In collaboration with other COE staff, plan, promote, and execute COE student engagement events and activities. Assist with communications between EduGator Central and other College offices to advertise and host student events. Assist with evaluating current levels of student engagement within COE and help develop plans to increase student engagement, as appropriate. Collaborate in developing learning outcomes and metrics for engagement activities.

Data Management

  • Analyzes data and prepares reports as appropriate based on enrollment statistics and student achievement. Maintain electronic databases concerning COE undergraduate student records, course offerings and enrollments, program milestones, graduation rates, and alumni information. Provide written reports and presentations concerning such information as directed by the Assistant Director, Associate Dean, and program coordinators. Participate in monthly program meetings, share available program/student data, and contribute to program improvement efforts in collaboration with program coordinators and faculty. Remain abreast of FLDOE policy and national accreditation standards related to state-approved programs and educator certification.

Scholarship Support

  • Provides student and faculty support for College scholarship process, including responding to inquiries regarding application processes and decisions. Verifies initial and continuing student eligibility for some specific scholarship sources and communicating with other campus offices and external funding agencies. Coordinates some discipline-specific scholarships (solicit and receive applications, distribute to review committee, communicate with student applicants) with support from COE Office of Advancement.

Other duties as assigned

Expected Salary:

II – $50,000- $60,000

III – $60,000- $70,000

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in education, counseling, or academic field related to the college and one year of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in similar fields with two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with experience in the University of Florida system working with students and academic programs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite and data management tools. 
  • Familiarity with University of Florida regulations, confidentiality of student records; knowledge related to educator certification; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; exceptional customer service skills.
